The Road to Cairo
Opened on Day 2 in Alexandria (10 September 1814): the deferred errands, the souk, and the baths — the women’s immersion in Egyptian female culture as the centrepiece, freeing and constraining by turns — then a travel montage up to Cairo giving each investigator a moment to meet the foreign world. As played, the session closed on arrival at the Auberge du Muski in Cairo; the Cairo breathing-space beat (the ride out to Giza) that was to open a home for Thomas’s still-held anklet gift to Emma was not reached this session and carries forward. No Choir, no Mythos on this leg — the relief of the ordinary, before the desert and Calcutta bite.
